Evenkia is situated in the Far North of Russia. The climate is continental, the average temperature in January is from 20 C to 36 C below zero, the average temperature in July is 13-15 above zero. The number of days with the temperature below zero is 226. The greater part of the district is situated permafrost zone. Tundra is 1/10 of the whole territory. Precipitation is approximately 400 mm/year

Taiga (larch, pine-tree, fir-tree) occupies more than 75% of the whole territory, the forest space which is allowed felling is 8 millions m². To the next year only 50 thousands m² will be felled.

The regional budget is 90% granted. It's formed from subsidies of federal budget. The main branches of economy are fir and fishing industry, reindeer breeding and fir-bearing animal breeding. The major transport ways are rivers (in navigation period), the length of water ways in the Nizgnyay Tunguska-river and Podkamennaya Tunguska-river is 2300 km, and also air way.

Industry of the region is little-developed, and represented by the work of graphite, spar, layers and coal extraction. But oil reserve (more than 500 millions of tons) and gas reserve (more than 700 milliards of м³) that were found for the last 15 years, make sure that oil and gas extraction will be the basis of Evenkia economy in the nearest future. Some gas layers preliminary consist of helium. Complex hidromineral raw reserves of unique concentration were found. They contain iodine, magnesium, lithium, strontium and other components. Long-term geological research shows that diamond deposits will be possibly found in the nearest future. The reserves will be not less than those in Yakutia. All this is concentrated in the relatively most worked southern part of Evenkia.

Those geologists who work in less worked northern part of the region say that new oil deposits of more than 15 milliards of tons and new coal deposits of 15 billions of tons will be found. If special research works are conducted, there will be a certain probability to find minerals iron, copper, nickel, lead, titanium ores, aluminium raw stuff and gold. in this case, new industrial deposits can be found.
